Art Deco Austrian Silver & Blue Guilloché Enamel Compact Pendant
Why choose a locket when a little compact can hold your treasures? This Austrian Art Deco compact brings blue guilloché enamel and gold-washed 900 silver to a keepsake with a second life as a pendant.
Guilloché, a technique that layers translucent enamel over machined engraving, creates extraordinarily fine patterns with a precision that would be impossible to achieve by hand. The effect gives the enamel a shimmering, floating depth, like ripples in a pond. The technique became synonymous with the lavish work of Fabergé in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and carried naturally into the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and ’30s, when bold color, symmetry, and machine-age craftsmanship defined a new language of luxury.
I added an antique gold-filled swivel dog clip so you can attach it to your favorite chain and carry a photograph, a lock of hair, or another small memento close to your heart.
